Two years ago this month, two fur babies came into my life by the names of Luna and Milo, littermates from Mexico. Never would I have imagined the journey we’d be going on at the time.
I’ve learned how to be a very patient mom, especially when Milo decides to loudly meow until I wake up for the day—usually around 3–3:30 a.m. (yes, almost every morning). He loves being up as high as he can, jumping on whatever piece of furniture is in the room. I realized early on he was going to be a handful. He loves going out on my balcony to enjoy the sun and fresh air.
Meanwhile, Luna walks around happy as a lark with her tail standing tall. She occasionally softly meows when she wants attention, but otherwise is a mild-mannered cat. She loves watching the birds and squirrels from my dining room window and occasionally also goes on the balcony.
They took their first road trip last summer, heading to Oregon for three weeks. This was a 10-hour one-way trip in the middle of the night. Both cats were in carriers and medicated with tranquilizers, and did very well until our return trip. Somehow, Milo tore the side of his carrier and got out. Luna decided to follow him and broke out of hers as well. Talk about a scary situation! Luckily, I was able to fix the carriers and we continued on. Lesson learned: I immediately bought hard plastic carriers for them. We’ll try the trip again this summer to visit my family. Let’s see if being a year older and with new carriers will make a difference.
Luna, Milo, and I truly appreciate all that Strays Deserve Love did for them while they were being moved to California and fostered by Laura. They’re totally spoiled now and truly loved by me. I call them my “Velcro” cats because whenever I sit in my recliner, both immediately lay on my lap until I have to get up.
Thank you all for what you do for the cats and dogs that you’ve rescued throughout the years. You are the voices for all of them, and your message is one of love and patience.
